The My Life Club was created by MCRCC educators in response to a need in the community for young people to become involved in the movement to end sexual violence. My Life fosters an environment that empowers young people to embrace their strengths, make safe and healthy decisions in their lives, and create positive change in their communities.
The My Life clubs are centered around weekly leadership meetings at local Monterey County high schools. These clubs aim to promote safe and respectful campuses and communities by:
- Engaging girl* leadership
- Discussing healthy relationships
- Addressing unhealthy societal standards
- Healthy communication and technology
- Mobilize student involvement in school-wide events
- Creating a culture of bystander intervention among peers
We work to reconstruct our communities to create space for all individuals to feel respected and empowered to become their best selves. In addition to weekly club meetings, students organize awareness-raising activities on their school campuses and participate in community events during April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
*The My Life clubs welcome students who identify as women, as well as those whose gender identity and/or expression is impacted by our society’s narrow definition of what it means to be a woman. This includes, but is not limited to, students who are transgender, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, and gender non-binary.
You can find the My Life clubs at Salinas High School, Seaside High School, Marina High School, Gonzales High School, Everett Alvarez High School & North Monterey County High School.
