Halloween has quickly approached us and it’s normally such an exciting time. However, with coronavirus cases still on the rise a lot of families are unsure as to whether they will continue traditional Halloween festivities, such as trick-or-treating; if not celebrating, what are the alternatives? Well, MCRCC’s Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) is here to offer some suggestions! Now, this isn’t a one-size fits all solution, so just pick and choose things you think would be best for you and your family and add your own twist! We have some suggestions for alternatives to traditional festivities (i.e. trick-or-treating, parties, carnivals/fairs, etc.) or just some safety tips if you decide you’d like to go out. So first the alternatives:
Have a halloween movie night! Disney+, Netflix, Hulu and many other streaming platforms have a few traditional movies such as Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, The Nightmare before Christmas, Scooby Doo and many more! If you don’t have a subscription, no worries there’s more to do!
Have a candy hunt! Hide candies inside and around your house, as you would with Easter eggs, and allow your family to go and find as many candies as they can. Make it a scavenger hunt by adding hints!
If staying in, but you still want to give out candy, you can make premade goody bags and set up a table (honors system). Or a 6-ft candy chute!
I hope this is helpful for you all and if you do any of the alternatives (movie night, candy hunts, etc) feel free to show us by tagging us on social media. Have a safe weekend and Happy Halloween!
