We proudly introduce three new members of the MCRCC team:

    Paola Martinez, Crisis Intervention Specialist

We are actually welcoming Paola back, as she has worked and volunteered for MCRCC before. Paola moved to Monterey from Sacramento to attend school where she obtained her B.A. in Psychology at CSU Monterey Bay. She started volunteering at MCRCC in the fall of 2016 as an advocate. She plans to continue school and obtain her Master's in Social Work with hopes of one day working as a therapist with survivors of trauma. She is beyond excited to be a part of the team at MCRCC. In her free time, she loves to go back to Sacramento and spend time with her family and Maximo her dog.

    Gillyn Maung, Intern

Our Summer Intern, Gillyn, is going into her third year at Stanford, majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in Gender, Sexuality and Mental Health in Marginalized Communities. She likes to dance, paint and watch things (shows, movies, animes, Korean dramas, etc.) in her free time. She was drawn to intern at MCRCC because sexual violence is an issue that she is extremely passionate about, and she felt like the issue is intersectional in that it involves all of the elements of her area of concentration (gender, sexuality, mental health, race/ethnicity).

    Derek Owens, Prevention Educator

Derek is originally from South Carolina and moved to Monterey in 2017 following three years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Panama. The strong women and positive male role models in Derek's life led him to his position at MCRCC, where he works to provide young men in our MyStrength clubs with the skills to challenge unhealthy masculine attitudes and behaviors. He hopes that his contribution to the powerful work of so many women before him will one day lead to a world free of men's violence against women and without any form of sexual violence.

We are very excited to welcome Derek, Gillyn, and Paola!
